Seasoned by what? I don't think it was international air travel. I think you might have a camera confiscated is you cannot demonstrate that it works and you need a battery for that. Plus what kind of 'seasoned photogrpaher' travels with a camera that does not work? My best pictures have always been the spur of the moment unplanned ones.

Yes, for sure. The issue is that security check points do not wish to have video or still images taken of their process. In any case, you had best be prepared to demonstrate that equipment is functional or risk confiscation.
