What is the best time of the year to visit this region? Objectives are (i) to see wild life and (ii) spend some 'beach' time. So - at least not too much rain.

Hello,

I am from Durban, KwaZulu Natal. The best time to visit, in my opinion would be any time from March through to December. The reason I would miss out January and February is that it is VERY hot and humid. Our winter is very mild and the coldest time being June/July but then all that you need to wear is jeans and a sweatshirt or light jacket.

Our beaches are beautiful and the water warm. It is possible to swim 12 months in the year.

As far as wildlife goes, we have the oldest Game Reserve in the world - the Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Game Reserve in KwaZulu Natal (Zululand). It is possible to see the 'Big Five' as well as an abundance of birdlife, antelope, beautiful bushveld..... it is paradise! Depending on what you want, there is a variety of accommodation ranging from 5-star to camping.

After visiting the Game Reserve I would recommend a visit to Lake St. Lucia which is a recently proclaimed World Heritage site and this is where you see magnificent birdlife and also Hippo and Crocodiles close up!

Anything else I can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards Diana
